In the fall of 2019, Ian was completing his tour of UVic’s Clubs and Course Unions Day. Preparing to leave, a final table caught his eye, remarkable only for being so sparsely adorned. Walking over out of sheer curiosity, he was greeted with an enthusiastic account of how food might be grown in the city and shared democratically among participants.
Since then, he has been meeting on weekends with the same group, developing designs for garden beds, watering systems, and other elements needed to bring that vision to life. Leaving his job as a software engineer at the end of 2025, Ian will finally begin working on Curbside full-time.
In his spare time, Ian produces experimental music and tinkers with designs for “collaborative reasoning” software, leaving a trail of scattered notes on his blog which is dedicated to the subject.
